The second issue of the Asia-Pacific Trade and Investment Review (APTIR) contains four research papers. The articles include research topics on Japan’s response to globalization: Learning from Japanese direct investment experiences; The Bangkok Agreement (renamed the Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement as of November 2005) – a negative list approach to trade liberalization in Asia and the Pacific; Foreign direct investment in services and its implications for developing countries; and issues of interest in the WTO’s Doha Development Agenda for economies in transition. In addition, two policy briefs are included in this issue: (1) The Chinese Yuan Revaluation and its effects and implications for exchange rate policy; (2) Liberalization of market access in GATS Mode 4 and its importance for developing countries. Finally, an executive summary on the regional perspectives of the role of trade and investment policies in the implementation of the Monterrey Consensus, published by the Secretariat and also available on-line, has been included in the November 2005 issue of APTIR.
