| The growing demand for energy has become a serious concern to the global community due to dwindling fossil fuel resources and the environmental impact of unsustainable consumption and production patterns. Though some steps have been taken to incorporate energy efficiency in many sectors, there remain enormous opportunities for end-use energy efficiency in many developing countries in the ESCAP region.
The End-use Energy Efficiency and Promotion of a Sustainable Energy Future publication, drawing on discussions from the Ad Hoc Expert Group Meeting by the same name, focuses on contemporary issues related to energy consumption. It emphasizes the importance of the four primary energy intensive sectors - industry, road transport, building and construction and electrical appliances. The vital policy options for these sectors are discussed and supplemented with experiences, case studies, basic energy data and sustainability parameters. |
