In this era of globalization, open competitive trade and trade policies are widely believed to be the most crucial elements for achieving economic growth and sustainable economic development. What is beyond dispute is that export performance matters significantly to development in small, low-income economies such as least developed countries (LDCs). This publication provides an empirical examination of the export diversification experience of selected Asian LDCs (Bangladesh, Myanmar and Nepal) and statistical tests of the linkages between export diversification and economic growth. Drawing upon the successful export diversification experience of Malaysia, the study provides useful policy suggestions for LDCs to enhance their export performance.
