Programme modalities

ESCAP undertakes normative, analytical, technical cooperation work to support the economic and social advancement of member States in the Asia-Pacific region.

Normative work (including Legislative bodies)


Commission
  • Legislative link to UN ECOSOC – it is a subsidiary commission of ECOSOC
  • Member States agree on regional standard setting

Committees

  • Committee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Inclusive Development;
  • Committee on Trade and Investment;
  • Committee on Transport;
  • Committee on Environment and Development;
  • Committee on Information and Communications Technology;
  • Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction;
  • Committee on Social Development;
  • Committee on Statistics
  • Review and analyse regional trends;
  • Identify priorities and emerging issues and consult on regional approaches, taking into consideration subregional aspects;
  • Promote regional dialogue, including its subregional synergies, and an exchange of experiences on policies and programmes;
  • Consider common regional positions as inputs to global processes and promote regional follow up to their outcomes;
  • Propose issues for consideration by the Commission as possible resolutions;
  • Monitor the implementation of Commission resolutions;
  • Promote a collaborative approach to addressing the development challenges of the region, where appropriate, between Governments and civil society, the private sector and the United Nations and other international institutions at the regional and subregional levels.

   

Analytical work

ESCAP's analytical work aims to support policy makers in government and their partners in civil society, academia and the private sector, by providing pertinent information, research, and statistical data on social and economic issues, developments and good practices in the region.

Technical cooperation work

This work consists of project-level interventions (TC projects) and regional advisory services that complement our programme of work. Increasingly ESCAP is moving towards a programme approach to delivery of its technical cooperation work.
