UNESCAP Technical Cooperation Activities
Types of Activities
A description of the types of activities for each component of our work is found below:
 
Legislative/Normative work
  • Legislative link to UN ECOSOC – it is a subsidiary commission of ECOSOC
  • Member States agree on regional standard setting

Committees
(Committee on Managing Globalization; Committee on Emerging Social Issues;
Committee on Poverty Reduction)

  • Regional monitoring of achievement of the goals and targets resulting from the global conferences
  • Identification and refocusing of mandates and priorities
  • Consolidation of regional positions and inputs on global issues

Subcommittees
(There are a total of 8)

  • Promotion of ongoing discussions between countries pertaining to regional economic and social development cooperation
  • Sharing of experiences/concerns/good practices on specific development issues
  • Forum for Asia-Pacific countries to consider technical issues
Analytical work


UNESCAP's analytical work aims to support policy makers in government and their partners in civil society, academia and the private sector, by providing pertinent information, research, and statistical data on social and economic issues, developments and good practices in the region.

Some publications include:

  • Economic and social survey of Asia and the Pacific (published annually)
  • Asian Highway Handbook
  • Current Issues on Industry, Trade and Investment
  • HIV/AIDS in the Asian and Pacific Region: Integrating Economic and Social Concerns, especially HIV/AIDS, in Meeting the Needs of the Region

Technical Cooperation work (TC projects)

This work consists of project-level interventions (TC projects) and regional advisory services that complement our programme of work that are based on the needs of member governments.
