The total UN Budget approved by the General Assembly for the biennium 2006-2007 is $US 3.8 billion. Member states contribute to this budget based on an assessed rate of contributions.

Besides the budget from assessed contributions, also referred to as the regular budget (RB), the UN receives voluntary contributions from countries, specialized agencies and other donors. For 2006-2007, the voluntary contributions, also called extrabudgetary resources (XB) are estimated at $US 5.6 billion.

The above resources do not include the $US 5 billion to finance 15 active peacekeeping missions for 2005/2006, which are funded separately through assessed contributions.
