The ESCAP secretariat monitors and analyses developments in the global economy and assesses their impact on the ESCAP region. Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific: Year-end Update is published to provide a mid-term review of what has become a rapidly changing international and regional economic environment. This publication is designed to provide a forwardlooking analysis focusing primarily on the principal policy issues and challenges likely to confront Governments in the region over the near term.
