Workshop on Integrated Pro-poor Water and Wastewater Management in Serang District and Serang City of Banten Province, Indonesia 17-18 March 2008
The Workshop on Integrated Pro-poor Water and Wastewater Management in Serang District and Serang City of Banten Province was organized by the Working Group of Serang Authorities on Water and Sanitation (Serang Pokja AMPL) with the support of Urban and Regional Development Institute (URDI) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) on the 18th of March 2008. 62 people representing the Serang Pokja AMPL, URDI and ESCAP participated to the workshop, which marked the initiation of the Integrated Pro-poor Water and Wastewater Management project activities in Indonesia. The working group members learned from similar experiences in their country and agreed on the project implementation strategy. The main outputs of the workshop are as follows:
The participants reviewed the policies for community based water and sanitation services in Indonesia and in Banten province as well as the water and sanitation strategic plan for Serang District.
They improved their understanding on various approaches to water and wastewater management for poor residents of small towns
They agreed on a plan for project implementation
