The United Nations Regional Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) announced the public lecture of Nobel Laureate professor Joseph E. Stiglitz on the ‘‘United Nations System and the Economic Crisis: Towards a New Global Financial and Economic Architecture ’’ which took place under the auspices of ESCAP on 21 August 2009 at 1400 hours at the United Nations Conference Centre, Conference Room 1. The lecture was attended by representatives of Government departments, Universities and Research Institutes and was followed by an open discussion. Participants benefited from Professor Stiglitz’s deep insights and understanding of issues and challenges related to the current global economic and financial crisis.
