Since 2010 ESCAP has contributed to the inclusiveness of the G20 process by organizing a series of high-level consultations to discuss Asia-Pacific perspectives on the agendas of the G20 summits. The most recent consultation, held in Bangkok in May of 2012 to discuss the agenda of the Los Cabos summit, was attended by representatives of 40 members, associate members and permanent observers of ESCAP. At this special briefing on 17 September 2012 organized by the Macroeconomic Policy and Development Division of ESCAP in cooperation with the Embassy of Mexico in Bangkok, Her Excellency Berenice Díaz Ceballos, Mexican Sous-Sherpa to the G20, highlighted salient features of the Summit Declaration. This also gave an opportunity to the non-G20 ESCAP members to clarify issues of concerns for them.
Berenice Díaz Ceballos is Chief of Staff to the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Government of Mexico and Mexican Sous-Sherpa to the G20 since 2007. Before undertaking this post, she was Deputy Director General for Global Issues. In that capacity she was responsible for coordinating Mexico’s international policies on issues such as sustainable development, gender equality, and human rights of indigenous people and people with disabilities.
