UNESCAP-Club de Madrid Roundtable on the
Global Economic Crisis and the Asia-Pacific Region:
Sustaining Asian Dynamism in a Post-Crisis World

ESCAP's MPDD, in partnership with the Club De Madrid and with the support of Casa Asia, is organizing a high-level roundtable on challenges for sustaining Asia-Pacific region's dynamism in a post-crisis world for inclusive development. The event is part of a series of activities MPDD is organizing in preparation for the G20 Summit to be hosted by the Republic of Korea in November 2010. Among some of the key issues to be discussed are the role of China and India as the world's emerging growth engines, and the opportunities for strengthening regional and interregional cooperation.
The event takes place on 18 August 2010 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok . Dr Noeleen Heyzer, Executive Secretary of ESCAP and Undersecretary General of the United Nations will deliver a welcome address. Distinguished former Heads of State and Government including Mr. Wim Kok, President of the Club De Madrid and former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mr. Hong Koo Lee, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Anand Panyarachun, former Prime Minister of Thailand, and Ms. Chandrika Kumaratunga, Former President of Sri Lanka , as well as eminent experts from the region are expected to participate in the event.
