Macroeconomic Policy and Analysis
The Section prepares ESCAP's flagship publication Economic
and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific and its mid-year update. It undertakes policy-based analysis and provides advice on economic issues and development challenges facing the region.
The Survey is ESCAP's best known and most consistent product, having started publication in 1948. Over the decades, the Survey has changed in both format and content. Today, it is seeks to be a policy responsive publication focused on providing compelling and real-time analysis. Its historical function of providing an authoritative survey of the region's economic performance and long term trends remains unchanged.
The work of the Section benefits from the advice and expertise of eminent persons and development experts who convene from time to time.
Its areas of special focus are:
- Reviewing and analyzing recent macro-economic trends and policy developments in the region
- Proposing regional policy options and solutions in response to the evolving global economic crisis
