The Section undertakes analytical studies and policy-oriented research on medium to long-term economic development issues, and it is leading, in collaboration with the Macroeconomic Analysis Section, ESCAP's efforts in developing an analytical framework for inclusive and sustainable development.
The section's focus areas of work are:

Assisting member states in addressing challenges to poverty reduction, such as the recent economic and financial crisis in the Asian and the Pacific region

Promoting macroeconomic policies that strengthen inclusive and sustainable economic development

Following up on financing for development issues that emanate from the Monterrey Consensus
Its policy recommendations are disseminated through the Division's publications and resources as well as through its meetings and events.
