Foreign direct investment (FDI) has emerged as a principal source of financing for development and can create employment, spread technologies and ideas and provide a significant source of funding for countries. Growing FDI flows in Asia and the Pacific have helped boost regional integration and growth. In the area of investment promotion and facilitation ESCAP assists countries to: enhance skills and institutional capacity in promoting, attracting and facilitating inward FDI; formulate effective policies and strategies for FDI attraction and facilitation; promote knowledge- and capacity-building through research and analytical studies, policy dialogues, expert group meetings and round table discussions, networking and sharing of good practices; and improve coordination and coherence among central and local governmental agencies.
