United Nations, Forests are essential for the survival of people everywhere. They nurture us, inspire us and shelter us. They are also at the heart of sustainable development. In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly declared 21 March as the International Day of Forests to "celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests and of trees outside forests". A wide range of special events will be launched during the month of March, to celebrate the International Day of Forests 2014 -- My Forest | Our Future.

More than ten million Filipinos work abroad, sending home more than 20 billion US dollars a year. But as over three quarters of Filipinos do not have bank accounts, receiving these remittances from overseas workers has been difficult for their families. The cell phone provider Globe Telecom with support from the International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD, came up with an innovative system. A regional ministerial conference of Asian and Pacific governments has issued a strong reaffirmation that gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights are indispensable to sustainable development, and must be a key part of the post-2015 development framework. Ministers and senior officials from 47 countries were among nearly 500 country delegates and civil society representatives attending the Sixth Asian and Pacific Population Conference (APPC) in Bangkok from 16-20 September. Asian and Pacific Energy Forum (APEF) 2013 is the first ministerial conference of its kind to bring together more than 50 member states from the Asia-Pacific region on energy. The Russian Federation is hosting APEF in Vladivostok from 27 to 30 May 2013. There will be a Senior Officials Meeting and a Ministerial Session, along with side events. Participants will include representatives from ESCAP member states and associate members, representatives from the UN-Energy Asia-Pacific network, research institutes and regional organizations, as well as members of civil society and the private sector.
