The upcoming Sixth Asian and Pacific Population Conference (APPC) will set the regional population and development agenda for the next decade.

Held once every ten years since 1963, the APPC provides a vital forum for forging and strengthening partnerships across the region in the field of population and development.

The Conference will review the region’s successes, challenges and future priorities in the area of population and development. The conference agenda covers a wide range of issues, including poverty reduction, sexual and reproductive health and rights, HIV and AIDS, gender equality, youth, ageing, migration and sustainable development.

The Conference, convened by ESCAP in cooperation with UNFPA, is expected to adopt a Ministerial Declaration which will serve as a framework for action on population and development issues in the region for the next 10 years. The Ministerial Declaration will also serve as the Asia-Pacific input to the United Nations General Assembly special session on the International Conference on Population and Development beyond 2014.

Over 300 Ministers and senior officials, parliamentarians and civil society representatives from about 40 countries and territories will participate in the five-day Conference.
