ESCAP launches Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2013: Year-end Update

Launch of UN Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2013

ESCAP’s flagship publication, the Year – End Update of the Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2013 will be launched Dr. Noeleen Heyzer, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCAP on 19 December.

Regional economic predictions and social impacts are outlined in the Survey, which will help the region to understand the continued growth and development challenges in the turbulent and uncertain recovery.

The Survey will be launched during the ‘Ministerial Conference on Regional Economic Cooperation and Integration in Asia and the Pacific,’ which runs from 17 – 20 December at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok.

The conference brings together heads of government, ministers and senior policymakers from over 27 Asia-Pacific countries to finalise a declaration on regional integration aimed at promoting inclusive and sustainable growth and reducing shared vulnerabilities and risks of natural and economic disasters.

The Year – End Update of the Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2013 has been monitoring regional progress, providing cutting-edge analyses and guiding policy discussion on the current and emerging socioeconomic issues and policy challenges to support inclusive and sustainable development in the region since 1947.
