Outline:
Sustainable economic growth in Asia and the Pacific requires fundamental transformation of water infrastructure management. Key measures for improving water management systems include integrating ecological costs in market prices, investing in sustainable water infrastructure (including non-physical infrastructure), promoting green water business and technology, adopting sustainable lifestyles and developing climate resilient societies.
The Forum on Eco-efficient Water Infrastructure for Green Growth in Asia and the Pacific will include two parts:
– Part II (29 September) will be held back-to-back with the annual meeting of the Project Working Group (PWG) on Water and Energy of the UN SPECA and jointly organized by ESCAP, UNECE and the Government of Kazakhstan. This part will showcase the strong linkages between intra-regional co-operation, water resources management and water infrastructure development in the context of Green Growth. The session will develop priority actions for the development of eco-efficient water infrastructure in the region, with a focus on Central Asia, and propose new activities for the Project Working Group on Water and Energy.
Organized by: United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), Colombo Plan Secretariat (CPS), Korea Water Forum (KWF), Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Government of Kazakhstan
