One objective of the Fourth Ministerial Conference on
Environment and Development to be held in Kita-Kyushu City, Japan from the
31st of August to the 5th of September, 2000 will be to assess progress made
by Small Island Developing States of the Pacific towards the implementation of
the Programme of Action for Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing
States as adopted in the Barbados Conference 1994 and the Regional Action
Programme for Environmentally Sound and Sustainable Development 1996 - 2000
adopted at MCED3, in November 1995 at Bangkok.
This analysis will result in recommendations for the
Regional Action Programme 2001-2005 and will contribute to the regional
message to the Rio + 10 review of Agenda 21 to take place in 2002.
