Daniele Ravaioli
ESCAP- Statistics Division
February 2007 – May 2007
|
Ciao, my name is Daniele and I’m from Italy. I am attending my last year of the graduate Degree Program in Economic and Social Sciencesat Bocconi University in Milan. Thanks to my university network I had the opportunity to apply for an internship at ESCAP, the regional commission of United Nations for Asia and Pacific.
I have always been interested in development and international cooperation issues and working for the UN is the realization of a dream for me. My specific assignment at the Statistics Division regards helping at the production of the third regional Millennium Development Goals report. I have to say that my contribution to the office work is really modest but I am learning a lot, not only about development issues but also how people should work together in a team and, more in general, how the UN system works.
I highly recommend this experience to everyone not only because of the work experience but also for chance of knowing different cultures and interesting people.

Kyra-Isabelle HARTIG
Environmental and Sustainable Development Division |
I’m Kyra from Bonn, Germany. I am an intern in the Environment and Sustainable Development Division and do research work on policies and mechanisms on climate change. It is very interesting for me to do that at UNESCAP as the interests of the different countries in its area of responsibility are widely spread and a large number of its member states face the challenge of uniting economic growth with environmental sustainability.
As it is the first time that I work in Asia I am happy to meet and get to know colleagues from many Asian countries which enable me to learn about different opinions and perspectives and gained a better understanding of my research subject and the work of UNESCAP.
I am very happy that I have the opportunity to work at UNESCAP and I am sure that I will benefit from the experiences made during my internship.

Miroslav Kalniev
Organization Development and Learning Unit
Human Resources Section |
Hey, my name is Miro from Bulgaria, and I am currently undertaking an internship at UNESCAP. More specifically, I am working for the Organizational Development and Learning Unit, Human Resources Management Section. I really appreciate the fact that I have the chance to work in a multicultural environment, and so far, it is a very challenging and interesting place to work at. The most satisfying aspect of doing an internship here is that you can actually see immediate results of your work. In addition, the team set up here is really dynamic and motivated to perform on a high level, which, at least for me, makes the work much more enjoyable. I am grateful that I can be part of this team here, and I feel that I have gained invaluable working experience already. I most definitely recommend this internship position to anyone who is looking for a great learning opportunity.

January 2007 |
Hi, my name is Srunya and I’m from Thailand. I am currently doing an MSc in Economics and Finance at the University of Warwick. Having always been interested in the works carried out in the United Nations, I thus decided to apply for an internship at the regional commission of ESCAP under the Trade and Investment Division (TID). Not only have I had the opportunity of applying what I have learned at university, I have gained valuable lessons on issues concerning trade facilitation and investments. Internship at ESCAP has been an unforgettable and priceless experience for me. I have familiarized myself with the system of the United Nations and finally have a true understanding of working in an international organization. Working in such a diverse cultures and friendly environment, I have gained many new international friends and have shared unforgettable memories of them. If I was given a second chance to take this internship again, I would not hesitate at all as the experiences gained at ESCAP are truly rewarding.

Yunji KIM
Sustainable Development Section
Intern at Environmental and Sustainable Development Division
February 2007 - July 2007 |
Hello, I’m Yunji from the Republic of Korea. I am studying Economics at Yonsei University. An internship is an excellent opportunity for me to experience real field of work that would guide me to the path from which I can determine where to dedicate my abilities in the future. For this reason I applied to the internship programme with UNESCAP. Fundamental knowledge is important; however, through hands on experiences like listening, watching, and feeling- I gain better experiences that will serve me throughout my life. I’m learning about how to develop my communication skills so that I can understand my fellow employees and my employer. Also, I have a chance to use the knowledge that I learned from the University in the real field work. Through this experience I hope to merge my understanding of academia and the real world.
