Daniele Ravaioli
Statistics Division
February – May 2007 |
|
Ciao, my name is Daniele and I’m from Italy. I am attending my last year of the graduate Degree Program in Economic and Social Sciencesat Bocconi University in Milan. Thanks to my university network I had the opportunity to apply for an internship at ESCAP, the regional commission of United Nations for Asia and Pacific.
I have always been interested in development and international cooperation issues and working for the UN is the realization of a dream for me. My specific assignment at the Statistics Division regards helping at the production of the third regional Millennium Development Goals report. I have to say that my contribution to the office work is really modest but I am learning a lot, not only about development issues but also how people should work together in a team and, more in general, how the UN system works.
I highly recommend this experience to everyone not only because of the work experience but also for chance of knowing different cultures and interesting people.

Dirk Tormählen
Trade and Investment Division
September - December 2008 |
|
Hello, my name is Dirk, I am from Germany and I am currently doing an internship with the Trade and Investment Division. I applied for the ESCAP Internship Programme to combine the knowledge gained during my undergraduate studies (East Asian Studies and Political Science) with concrete economic issues in Asia in order to prepare my master-thesis. By working closely with my supervisor on an exciting and demanding project I am not only able to contribute to the project’s success, but foremost to get a deep insight into the current economic challenges in Asia. I have been regarded as a full team member since my first day in the office and have been included in team meetings and involved in the overall decision making process for the project. In addition to my work assignments, ESCAP is also a perfect place to learn how the UN system actually functions and to get in touch with many experts from all over the region. If you are also interested in social and economic issues within Asia, I would highly recommend the ESCAP Internship Programme.

Ors Penzes
Trade and Investment Division
October - December 2008 |
|
My name is Ors Penzes, I was born in Czechoslovakia and I am a Law, International Business and Political Science student. I have been studying at various universities in Eastern-Western Europe, and the United States. My internship with the Trade and Investment Division has provided me with international business and legal experience, established in a cross-cultural and dynamic team-work environment. The expectations I had from this internship have been met: First, to be a part of such an internship underlying important goals from humanitarian aspect. Second, the opportunity to understand analysis methods used by UN and familiarize myself with different research methods and databases. Third, expanding my knowledge of UNESCAP member countries, on-going projects, policy and business trends. For potential interns I would recommend that this internship may extend your analytical and problem management skills, and enable you to better understand the highly connected multi-disciplinary business-legal areas found within the UN system.

i, I am Bao Min Yan from People’s Republic of China. I am currently studying Human Resource Management and Labour Economics in Chulalongkorn University. In order to promote a better understanding of the knowledge that I have learned in the university and an insight into the working of United Nations I applied for the internship program at the Organizational Development and Staffing Unit (ODSU) in UNESCAP. The staff here taught me a huge amount of valuable general knowledge and I have an opportunity to learn practical working experience. Yunji KIM
Sustainable Development Section
Intern at Environmental and Sustainable Development Division
February - July 2007 |
|
Hello, I’m Yunji from the Republic of Korea. I am studying Economics at Yonsei University. An internship is an excellent opportunity for me to experience real field of work that would guide me to the path from which I can determine where to dedicate my abilities in the future. For this reason I applied to the internship programme with UNESCAP. Fundamental knowledge is important; however, through hands on experiences like listening, watching, and feeling- I gain better experiences that will serve me throughout my life. I’m learning about how to develop my communication skills so that I can understand my fellow employees and my employer. Also, I have a chance to use the knowledge that I learned from the University in the real field work. Through this experience I hope to merge my understanding of academia and the real world. |
