Expert Group Meeting on Geo-reference Disaster Risk Management Information System in Asia-Pacific Region

The meeting was held from 15 to 17 February 2012 in Bangkok as an inception meeting towards accomplishing the goal of the UNDA project entitled “Improving capacity for disaster preparedness in ESCAP region”. The meeting will be organized by ESCAP's Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction Division (IDD).

The objectives of the meeting were to discuss and finalize the findings of the data needs and gaps assessment survey, to discuss establishment of online network of regional and national policy makers and experts on geo-referenced disaster risk reduction (DRR) and management, and impact assessment taking into account of existing initiatives and services provided key partners in the region, and to discuss the development of standardized information system containing socio-economic statistics and geo-referenced information in support of DRR and preparedness, and way forward.

The meeting was attended by policy and decision makers, and experts, mostly working in the area of geo-reference disaster risk reduction and management including those from governments, international/regional/inter-governmental organizations and other entities in the region.
