The Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (APCICT) will hold the Seventh session of its Governing Council on 21 November 2012, in Bangkok, Thailand.
APCICT was inaugurated on 16 June 2006 as a regional institute of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and is located in Incheon, Republic of Korea. The Centre’s mission is to strengthen the efforts of the member countries of ESCAP to use ICT in their socio-economic development through human and institutional capacity building. To meet this objective, APCICT’s work is focused on three inter-related pillars – Training, Research and Advisory Services. Together they form an integrated approach to ICT human capacity building.
In accordance with its statute, APCICT has a Governing Council consisting of a representative nominated by the Government of the Republic of Korea and eight representatives of members and associate members of ESCAP elected by the Commission. In addition to the host country, the Republic of Korea, the elected members of the Governing Council include: Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand for the period of 2012-2015.
