The meeting, organized annually, was attended by 89 experts from 62 organizations, including space agencies, universities and other non-governmental organizations from the Asia-Pacific region. It was opened by the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of Malaysia, Y.B. Datuk Haji Fadillah bin Yusof. The Executive Secretary of ESCAP, Dr. Noeleen Heyzer, the Director General of ANGKASA, Dr. Mustafa Din Subari, and the Associate Executive Director of JAXA, Mr. Toshio Doura gave their welcome addresses after the keynote speech given by the Secretary of the Malaysian National Security Council, Datuk Mohammed Thajudeen bin Abdul Wahab.
