Regional Workshop on Follow-up to WSIS and Integration of ICT Policies and Strategies in the Development Process

The Regional Workshop on Follow-up to WSIS and Integration of ICT Policies and Strategies in the Development Process was held at Bangkok on 29-31 May 2006. The meeting was attended by the representatives of the following countries: Bangladesh, China, India, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Viet Nam. Representatives from UNCTAD, UNDP-APDIP, ITU and APT also participated in the meeting.

The main objectives of the meeting were:

  • Ensuring that concerns related to ICT are incorporated in the process of national development policy-making, planning and programming.
  • Promoting and develop ICT policies and strategies in consonance with the objectives/targets set out in the MDGs and action-lines of the Plan of Action and Tunis Agenda of the WSIS process.
  • Facilitating coordination among national ministries and agencies dealing with the sectorial aspects of ICT so as to ensure the multisectoral integration of mutually supportive policy-making, planning and programming regarding ICT and sustainable economic and social development, and
  • Highlighting priority areas that apply across the participating countries.
