Regional Expert Meeting on Using Space Technology for Avian Influenza Monitoring and Early Warning in Asia, Bangkok, Thailand, 1-3 August 2007

The Regional Expert Meeting on Using Space Technology for Avian Influenza Monitoring and Early Warning in Asia held at the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC), Bangkok, Thailand from 1 to 3 August 2007. The meeting was jointly, organized by UNESCAP and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), and co-sponsored by the China National Space Agency (CNSA) and the Geo-informatics and Space Technology Development of Thailand (GISTDA).

The objective of the meeting was to discuss and formulate regional framework and work plan towards the establishment of a regional network for joint development of the space-information technology enabled HPAI monitoring and early warning model in Asia, as technical basis for future operational system for HPAI prevention and control. The meeting was attended by 37 policymakers from national HPAI coordinating bodies or relevant ministries/departments and experts from technical support institutions of16 countries. Representatives of international organizations, including UNSIC, FAO, WHO were also present in the meeting.
