Capacity Building Workshop on Information Society Statistics: Infrastructure, Household and other Indicators
6-8 November 2007, Bangkok, Thailand

The Asia Pacific region is a performer in terms of ICT growth in this decade. ICT indicators have been traditionally compiled at the nation and international levels by various agencies.

These ICT indicators are used by governments, regulators, international agencies, the civil society and the private sector as analyticals tools for the various types of business conducted. With the advent of convergence, converged indicators have also emerged to reflect the overall status of ICT.

The Capacity Building Workshop on Information Society Statistics: Infrastructure, Household and other Indicators is co-organized and hosted by UNESCAP, in collaboration with ITU and APT, as part of the ongoing Partnership on Measuring ICT for Development initiative.

The main objectives of this Regional Workshop are:

  • to inform the Members of the internationally available Asia-Pacific ICT indicators from various United Nations and inter-governmental agencies in the region, their purpose and genesis.
  • to discuss indicators currently collected by ITU
  • to discuss the need for new indicators and their collection methodology
  • to discuss the use of these indicators in policy making and regulation
