The Expert Group Meeting on WSIS+5 and Emerging Issues in Asia and the Pacific will be held from 18 to 19 November 2008 at the United Nations Conference Center (UNCC in Bangkok, Thailand. The meeting will be organized as a pre-session activity of the First Committee Session on ICT by the Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction Division (IDD) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
The main objective of this Expert Group Meeting (EGM) is to exchange knowledge and experiences among the participating experts at technical, institutional and policy levels.
The EGM will be organized under the overall theme of WSIS+5 regional review and key and emerging trends in Asia and the Pacific. It will highlight key issues related to ICT development in the region in general and progress made on the implementation of the WSIS Plan of Action in particular. The EGM will focus on the following areas:
