Inauguration of Asian and Pacific Training Centre for
Information and Communication Technology for Development (APCICT)
The new Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and
Communication Technology for Development (APCICT) under the United
Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP)
was opened at Songdo Techno Park in Incheon, Republic of Korea
on 16 June 2006.
The first meeting of Technical Committee (TC) and the inaugural
session of the Governing Council (GC) of APCICT, was held on 14
June 2006 and on 15-16 June 2006 respectively in conjunction with the inauguration of the APCICT.
The current membership of the APCICT Governing Council includes
Bangladesh, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Islamic Republic of Iran,
Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Republic of Korea (host country), and
Thailand.
The Meetings reviewed the administrative and financial
status of the Centre and the implementation of its programmes of
work and strategies.
The APCICT aims to build human and institutional capacity in ICT
in member and associate member countries, which can lead to improved
knowledge and productivity necessary for long-term economic growth
and sustainable development of the region.
