VIET NAM
The coordination of space-related activities in Viet Nam
rests with the National Council for Space Technology Applications.
Viet Nam focuses on the applications of remote sensing,
GIS, satellite meteorology and satellite communications.
More than 20 organizations are engaged in space applications.
Remote sensing and GIS are being operationally used for
a variety of applications, while satellite-based positioning
has been used for establishing a geodetic network for mapping
and navigation. Some meteorological satellite ground receiving
stations have been set up in Viet Nam to receive and process
images from meteorological satellites like GMS, NOAA and
Meteor for routine weather forecasting and disaster monitoring.
Viet Nam Telecommunications set up a modern telecommunication
infrastructure. The country has established cooperation
with Intelsat for telecommunication services in the country.
A satellite communication network has been established for
the entire country and has been connected to the international
satellite network by Thaicom satellite. Distance education
is also being implemented through radio and television broadcasts.
Viet Nam is interested in having its own satellite for communication
applications. |
