THAILAND
Thailand's active involvement in space technology
applications dates back to 1971 with the Thailand Satellite
Remote Sensing Programme. About 40 user agencies applies
remote sensing and GIS for various applications in natural
resource and environmental management, deforestation, coastal
zone and water resource management, flood events and land-use
changes. Data from meteorological satellites are routinely
used for weather forecasting and natural disaster monitoring.
The ground receiving station at Ladkrabang established in
1981 is one of the earliest ground stations in the Asia-Pacific
region.
Thaicom communication satellites are used to provide a
wide range of data communication, telephone, VSAT operation,
broadcasting and other services. The first Thai-made micro-satellite,
TMSat, developed by Mahanakorn University of Technology
weather forecasting and resource survey, was launched in
1998.
