Remote sensing, GIS and satellite-based positioning technologies
were introduced in Cambodia in the 1990s for land-use/land-cover
mapping, forest cover assessment and topographic mapping.
Development in remote sensing applications started with
the use of satellite images and aerial photography to produce
land-use/land-cover maps, rice-ecosystem maps and forest
cover assessment. GIS applications are used by many agencies.
The Integrated Resource Information Centre (IRIC) attempted
to play a central coordinating role among a number of national
and international institutions dealing with the matter.
The concept of establishing the Cambodia Geographical Information
Network had been submitted to the government. |
