Space Technology Applications Section
Our objective is to assist ESCAP member countries to strengthen national capacity, partnerships and regional cooperative mechanisms for the use of space technology for achieving internationally agreed development goals and disaster reduction.
Our activities focus on: 1) assisting ESCAP member countries to build relevant partnerships and develop/strengthen regional cooperative mechanisms to effective use of space technology for achieving the internationally agreed development goals, such as MDG, Plan of Action of WSIS and the outcomes of WSSD and WCDR; and 2) building capacity of Governmental officials to better integrate space applications with national development planning and management, bridging the digital divide and disaster reduction. The Section also supports the implementation of the Regional Space Applications Programme for Sustainable Development (RESAP).

2008/2009 Post Graduate courses - Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific (CSSTEAP) :
The CSSTEAP has been regularly organizing courses in the fields of Space Science and Technology for scientists and university educators. During the year 2008-2009, the following courses will be conducted:
- 6th P.G. Course in Satellite Meteorology and Global Climate (SATMET) – commencing from August 1, 2008 to April 30, 2009.
- 6th P.G. Course in Space and Atmospheric Science(Space Science) – commencing from August 1, 2008 to April 30, 2009
- 13th P.G. Course in Remote Sensing and GIS (RS&GIS)– commencing from October 1, 2008 – June 30, 2009.
- International Short Course on Application of Space Technology for Disaster Management Support with emphasis on Drought Monitoring, Desertification and Crop Yield Prediction commencing from 14th July 2008 to August 8, 2008
- International training course on Satellite Navigation and location Based services commencing from 18th June 2008 to July 18, 2008.
