UN Regional Commissions Side Event - Samoa SIDS Conference 2014
The Samoa Conference is expected to call on regional commissions and inter-governmental organisations to support the implementation of its decisions. Regional actions are expected to focus on: supporting national implementation and capacity development; leveraging the SIDS voice; and tracking and reporting on progress. As the Conference is likely to highlight the need for coherence and high impact, the side event will include keynote speeches on both these imperatives. The immediate objective of the side event is to discuss how regional commissions, inter-governmental organizations, and other regional partners intend to respond to the decisions of the Conference. Its broader purpose is to illustrate the added value of regional collaboration and demonstrate the shared commitment to working in regional partnership in support of the Conference outcomes. Although the event will focus on the Pacific, it will include presentations from the Caribbean.
