Training on national geo-database and geo-portal for disaster risk reduction and sustainable development
ESCAP, in collaboration with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) has been conducting an intensive training programme at AIT campus from 6 February to 3 March 2017, inviting 12 government officials from eight Pacific Island countries. The training forms one of the key activities under the project on “Strengthening multi-hazard risk assessment and early warning systems with applications of space and geographic information systems in Pacific island countries”, which is funded by the Government of Japan.
The training aims to enhance knowledge and technical capacity of participating government officials on how to build and operate a national geo-portal and database, and to manage and analyze geospatial and remote sensing data for early warning systems. The training is also expected to enhance the institutional capacity by developing mid-term national action plans for operation of geo-portal and database in the Pacific region.
