The Regional Seminar on Health Promotion and Active Ageing in Asia and the Pacific
The Regional Seminar on Health Promotion and Active Ageing in Asia and the Pacific took place at the United Nations Conference Centre, Bangkok, during 15 and 16 November 2010. It was jointly organized by the Social Development Division of ESCAP and HelpAge International.
The Seminar was attended by experts on ageing, health promotion and self-care management, including representatives from governments and civil society organizations, as well as relevant international organizations. The objective of the Regional Seminar was to identify good practices, common approaches and priority areas in health promotion and active ageing, particularly to mitigate the impact of non-communicable diseases among older persons on national health systems.
The Seminar served as a platform to identify gaps and challenges of implementing the health pillar of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA), as well as concrete recommendations for consideration by Governments in the second regional review and appraisal of MIPAA which would commence in 2011.
