Regional Preparatory Meeting for the Ministerial Conference on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific
In order to pave the way for a successful outcome of the Ministerial Conference on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) in Asia and the Pacific (24-28 November 2014, Bangkok), the Regional Preparatory Meeting is being convened for governments to:
(a) Review a draft ministerial declaration and regional action framework;
(b) Identify key emerging issues related to CRVS to be considered by the Ministerial Conference.
Effective and sustainable improvement of CRVS systems is dependent on cooperation across multiple ministries, covering civil registration, health and statistics, among other areas. National delegations may thus include representatives from the following organizations:
(a) Permanent Representative to ESCAP;
(b) Office of the President/Prime Minister
(c) Ministry of Interior/Home Affairs/Justice
(d) Ministry of Health
(e) Ministry of Planning
(f) National Statistics Office
(g) Other pertinent ministries, such as education or social development.
A civil society forum will also be convened prior to the start of the Meeting, on 26-27 August 2014, to provide representatives of civil society with an opportunity to review the draft outcome documents and to develop a civil society statement for delivery at the Ministerial Conference.
