18 to 19 December 2016 | By invitation only

The ‘Pro-Poor Public Private Partnership (5P) - Widening Access to Energy Services Closing Workshop’ will be held from 18-19 December 2016 in Kathmandu, Nepal.

With the support of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and building upon the experience of Cinta Mekar in Indonesia, ESCAP has been implementing the project "Leveraging Pro-Poor Public-Private-Partnerships (5Ps) for rural development - Widening access to energy services for rural poor in Asia and the Pacific." The project has been implemented in Nepal and Lao PDR from 2011 through 2016 with an overall aim of identifying a private sector partnership model for rural energy access and the necessary enabling policy and institutional environment for widening private sector investment.

The objectives of the Workshop are to further enhance knowledge and awareness of stakeholders through:
· providing a platform for energy access stakeholders, including policy makers and practitioners to discuss energy access strategies, financing, and the role of 5P;
· Sharing and discussing Pro-Poor Public Private Partnership (5P) project outcomes from Nepal and Lao PDR with a view of identifying good practices and lessons learned for project replication and scalability; and
· Building awareness for policymakers on climate finance instruments available, how to access funds or attract private sector finance and mobilizing the required resources for climate finance, specifically climate finance for energy access.

Organized by UNESCAP in cooperation with the Alternative Energy Promotion Center, this platform is an opportunity to reflect on the 5P project and discuss future initiatives for upscaling the model.
