Interregional Expert Group Meeting on the Social Protection Toolbox: Good Practices for Enhancing and Expanding Coverage

Date:
17 Oct 2013 to 18 Oct 2013
Location:
Bangkok, Thailand

The Meeting is being organized by the Social Development Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), under an interregional project on “Strengthening Social Protection”. The aim of the project is to enhance the capacity of policymakers and planners for developing effective and coherent social protection policies and programmes. The research results of the project are being integrated into an online Social Protection Toolbox. The Toolbox is a practical and policy-oriented platform that provides support to policymakers and stakeholders for moving toward broader and more robust social protection systems.

The Meeting will bring together social protection experts from Governments, Civil Society, academia, the UN system and concerned international organizations from Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Western Asia and Africa. It has three main objectives:

  1. Provide feedback on the usefulness and functions of the Toolbox
  2. Review for accuracy the good practices contained in the Toolbox and propose new cases for further populating it
  3. Propose a framework for dissemination and development of the Toolbox
