The fourth meeting of the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for Population and Social Statistics
The TAG, which advises the Committee on Statistics on strategies for developing and implementing a regional programme to improve population and social statistics in Asia and the Pacific, held its fourth meeting from 25-27 November, 2013 in Bangkok.
This fourth meeting aimed to build on the momentum resulting from the endorsement by the Commission of the core set of population and social statistics in resolution 69/16, as well as the group’s success in conceptualizing a capacity framework to act as the basis for development and for underpinning national diagnoses of capacity issues (national reviews).
Some of the key objectives of the TAG included:
1. developing a regional programme that accounts for on-going discussions regarding the post-2015 development agenda;
2. identifying options for complementing related capacity issues such as strengthening civil registration and vital statistics and gender statistics; and
3. finalising the a national review process of capacity assets and needs.
