To ensure that the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) promotes the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals through regional cooperation, experts from five Central Asian countries, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan proposed ways to enhance national ownership, streamline coordination and meet subregional priorities in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on 11 and 12 June 2018. The recommendations, including nomination of national focal points and re-establishment of the SPECA secretariat under ESCAP Subregional Office for North and Central Asia, will be considered by its Governing Council on 21 September 2018.
