Expert Group Meeting on Long-Term Care for Older Persons
ESCAP in co-operation with the National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People’s Republic of China, organized an Expert Group Meeting on Long-Term Care for Older Persons, 18-19 December 2013, in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China. The Meeting was organized in the context of the project "Strengthening National Capacity for Promoting and Protecting the Rights of Older Persons".
The Meeting aimed to:
- Facilitate an exchange of information and experiences, including identification of challenges, opportunities and good practices from the Asia-Pacific region, relating to health-care and long-term care services for older persons;
- Provide a forum for interaction between two pilot communities, experts from China and invited international experts;
- Identify areas for further research and documentation in the context of the overall project
The first day focused on (i) sharing of experiences from select countries in the Asia-Pacific region in providing health-care and long-term care services for older persons; and (ii) identifying critical challenges and opportunities related to the provision of long-terms care services for older persons.
The second day focused on the Chinese context and also discussed different modalities for providing long-term care in the region, including the financial and human resources requirements.
