Expert Group Meeting on Capacity Development for Disaster Information Management in South and South-West Asia
The Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on Capacity Development for Disaster Information Management, which will take place on 16 and 17 April 2014 in New Delhi, will aim to identify the critical gaps in disaster information supply chains and the related institutional and policy issues in South and South-West Asia. The EGM intends to discuss the opportunities for capacity development through regional and South-South cooperation to narrow down the existing gaps in disaster information management. It is organized by the ICT and Disaster Risk Reduction Division of ESCAP and the ESCAP South and South-West Asia Office.
Further to ESCAP Resolution 67/4 adopted at the 67th session of ESCAP Commission in May 2010, the Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM), being set up in Tehran, has developed a programme of work related to capacity development in disaster information management for the subregion. The EGM will provide an intergovernmental platform for key stakeholders from South and South-West Asian member States to understand, interact and assess the proposed programme of work put forward by APDIM. The EGM is to further promote South-South cooperation for the purpose of sharing information, exchanging good practices and promoting collaboration in the pursuit of building resilience to natural disasters in the subregion.
