Expert Group Meeting on Capacity Development for Disaster Information Management in North and Central Asia
The Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on Capacity Development for Disaster Information Management in North and Central Asia, scheduled to take place on 26 - 27 February 2014 in Almaty, aims to understand the critical gaps in disaster information supply chains and the related institutional and policy issues in North and Central Asia. The EGM intends to discuss the opportunities for capacity development through regional and South-South cooperation to narrow down the existing gaps in disaster information management. It is organized by the ICT and Disaster Risk Reduction Division of ESCAP and the ESCAP Subregional Office for North and Central Asia.
Further to ESCAP Resolution 67/4 adopted at the 67th session of ESCAP Commission in May 2010, the Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM), being set up in Tehran, has developed a programme of work related to the capacity development in disaster information management for the subregion. The EGM will provide the intergovernmental platform for key stakeholders from the ESCAP member Countries in the subregion to understand, interact and assess whether the proposed APDIM’s programme of work put forward by APDIM. The EGM is to further promote South-South cooperation for the purpose of sharing information, enhancing good practices and promoting collaboration in pursuit of building resilience to natural disasters in the subregion.
