DA7: Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on Geo-referenced Information Systems for Disaster Risk Management (Geo-DRM) and Sustaining the Community of Practice (COP)
The Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction Division (IDD) is organizing the "Expert Group Meeting on Geo-referenced Information Systems for Disaster Risk Management and Sustaining the Community of Practice" during 23 to 24 April 2014 at Meeting room G, United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC) and 25 April 2014 at AIT, Pathumthani.
The main objectives of the workshop are to showcase good practices and operational uses of the Geo-DRM systems which ESCAP helped establish in most of the participating member countries, provide an opportunity for the government users to exchange with regard to administration and upgrade of the Geo-DRM, and discuss and deliberate on the way forward for the Community of Practice (COP) as an effective platform for knowledge sharing among member countries on geo-referenced information for improved disaster risk management. The meeting will consist of presentations, success stories, troubleshooting exercises and customized in-depth training.
A Geo-DRM system combines disaster data with critical disaggregated socio-economic data for evidence-based policymaking and effective disaster management, and can be considered a decision support system for disaster managers and national disaster management authorities.
