Conference on Disability-Inclusive MDGs and Aid Effectiveness
ESCAP, in collaboration with Leonard Cheshire Disability convened the Conference on ‘Disability-Inclusive MDGs and Aid Effectiveness’ from 14 to 16 March 2012 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. The Conference was the second joint ESCAP and Leonard Cheshire Disability meeting on disability and inclusive development, bringing together experts from government, civil society, including organizations of persons with disabilities, United Nations entities, development partners and academia.
The purpose of the Conference was to enhance understanding of how disability-inclusive development could contribute to the full achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to prepare for the final review of the Second Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons 2003-2012, to be conducted in October 2012. The Conference also provided a platform for exchanging lessons learnt and ways to enhance the quality and effectiveness of development cooperation through the inclusion of persons with disabilities.
The Conference offered a unique opportunity to develop innovative ways to bring disability into the mainstream of international development.Panel sessions and workshops explored good practices and identified effective ways of delivering results that would have empowering and positive impacts on the lives of persons with disabilities.
