The Transport Division with funding support from the Government of the Russian Federation has been implementing a project entitled ‘Enhancing the Operationalization of the Trans-Asian Railway-Costing, Marketing and Facilitation of Railway Services’. Under the project, a study was undertaken with an objective to develop a regional cooperation framework for facilitation of international railway transport. The draft framework was discussed during the regional railway meeting held in Bangkok in October 2014 and it was decided to convene an ad hoc EGM to further refine and finalize the Regional Cooperation Framework. Keeping in view the aforementioned, the main objectives of the above captioned meeting are to: (a) exchange information and experience in facilitating international railway transport in context with the regional cooperation framework; and (b) finalize the draft regional cooperation framework for facilitation of international railway transport. Further, as recommended by the fourth session of Committee on Transport held in October 2014 in Bangkok, the finalized Regional Cooperation Framework for facilitation of international railway transport will be considered for adoption through inter-governmental process.
