The status and prospects for social development of the
Asian and Pacific region into the twenty-first century was
chosen as the theme topic for the 54th session of ESCAP.
The study reviews the progress in social development in
the region, and identifies priority issues requiring attention.
The study is divided in two parts: a regional overview,
and prospects for specific groups.
