National
Policies and Programmes on Ageing in Asia and the Pacific:
An Overview and Lessons Learned
Social Policy Paper No. 9, 2002
ST/ESCAP/2232
The publication aims to provide an overview of national
policies and
programmes on ageing in Asia and the Pacific, focusing on
the analysis of major issues and lessons learned from the
experiences of countries and areas in the region, particularly
good practices. The publication is divided into three parts.
The first part examines major issues in national policies
and programmes on ageing in the region. The second part
contains the 2000 review of the implementation of the Macao
Plan of Action on Ageing for Asia and the Pacific, with
an emphasis on the seven major areas of concern identified
in the Plan. The last part, part three, discusses trends
and issues in the region concerning social services for
older persons, which is one of the key areas covered in
both the Macao and Madrid Plans of Action on Ageing.
The publication has been issued by the Emerging Social
Issues Division of the UNESCAP secretariat. The generous
financial support of the Government of Macao, China towards
the preparation of this publication is hereby gratefully
acknowledged.
