Social Development Management Information Systems (SOMIS): Experience and Lessons Learned
Social Policy Paper No. 7, 2001
ST/ESCAP/2167

This publication is a further step following the publication entitled “Establishing a Social Development Management Information System: Issues and Perspectives”, issued in November 1999. The publication is made up of three interrelated parts. Part One presents the conceptual and operation framework for SOMIS, including its rationale, the role and function of SOMIS in policy planning, implementation and management, its data content and an information architecture. Part Two consists of three country studies on the Islamic Republic of Iran, Maldives and the Philippines, as well as progress reports on the initialization and pilot testing of national SOMIS. Part Three contains the recommendations and report of the Regional Seminar on Social Development Management Information Systems (SOMIS), convened at Bangkok in May 2000.
