NAKHON SAWAN

This town, a fortificated town on the mountain facing the east was formerly located on the west side of the Chao Phraya River.  It was named according to the site “Muang Chon Ta Wan”.  It is surmised Nakhon Sawan was built in the Sukhothai period.  According to the stone inscription “Muang Phra Bang” the name of the important Buddha image was “Phra Bang” in the region of King Rama I.

Nakhon Sawan is administrative divided into 12 districts and 2 sub-districts: Muang Nakhon Sawan, Banphot Pisai, Chumsaeng, Kaoliew, Krokpra, Lard Yao, Phaisalee, Phayuhakiri, Tak Fa, Ta Khli, Tha Tako, Mae Wong sub-district and Mae Pearn sub-district.

North:      Kamphaeng Phet and Phichit
South:     Chainat, Uthai Thani and Sing Buri
East:       Phetchabun and Lopburi
